The Mauj Team’s 6 Self-Pleasure Tips for Beginners

Self

Our sexual selves and sensuality are natural, essential parts of who we are. That's why it's crucial for us to discover what attracts us, what feels good for us, and what we like on our own terms.

The most important relationship we will ever have is with ourselves. At Mauj, we believe that we have a right to learn about our bodies, sexuality, and pleasure through a discovery of self, irrespective of our relationship or marital status.

Our sexual selves and sensuality are natural, essential parts of who we are. That's why it's crucial for us to discover what attracts us, what feels good for us, and what we like on our own terms.

Self-pleasure is a huge part of that. By exploring and touching ourselves, we discover where and how we like to be touched — which is also proven to have a positive impact on relationships.

If you’ve just started exploring your pleasure, these six tips will help you get started.

1. Find the right time and space.

If this is your first time practicing self-pleasure, you'll want to carve out some time and space for yourself. Find somewhere comfortable where you won't be interrupted and set the mood by lighting a candle.

2. Get turned on.

Mental stimulation is hugely important when it comes to arousal. In fact, the brain is often described as our biggest sex organ because of the crucial role it plays in getting us turned on. Use your imagination and bring to mind a person or a scenario that you find sexy or arousing.

3. Start slow.

Use your fingers to begin exploring your vulva. Slowly caress your labia, your clitoris, and the entry to your vagina. If you've never done this before, it might feel strange, but focus on the sensations you're experiencing instead. Where do you feel the most pleasure?

4. Add some lubrication.

Lube can help make the whole experience a bit smoother by allowing your fingers (or tool of choice) to glide from one part of your vulva to another. If you experience vaginal dryness, it will also make vaginal stimulation more pleasurable, especially if you’re using an intimacy product (aka a toy). Check out our range of products, here.

5. Get creative.

Do you prefer a clockwise stimulation of your clitoris? Does it feel best when you use your other hand to caress your breasts or massage your G-spot? Do you enjoy the pressure of the water in the shower against  your labia? You're on an adventure of discovery, so don't hold yourself back from exploring your body.

6. Focus on pleasure.

Let go of the need to orgasm, and focus instead on discovering your pleasure.

A final note

When it comes to practicing self-pleasure, remember that there's no formula or "right way" to enjoy yourself. It’s all about your joy with yourself, so find whatever feels good to you, whatever that may be.
